Our energy systems turned into a high-tech marvel.
And this development does not come to an end. The intensity of the
energy flows to provide the growing demand for energy services increases,
the complexity of the interlinked network and the vulnerability of
the sophisticated system can hardly be managed. We did not succeed
so far to get a grip on the negative effects and risks of anthropogenic
energy utilization; despite all efforts politics did not achieve sustainable
results in the energy economy; despite all insight, the consumer does
not visibly change his energy consumption pattern significantly.
