Stift Ossiach (monastery)

Stift Ossiach is the oldest convent to be founded in the first quarter of the 11th century. Legend tells that in 1521 the Polish king Boleslaus has spent his retirement as a mute penitent in convent and died there in 1069. In 1783, it happened that the convent had been disbanded. It followed the reconstruction to a hotel and since 1969 musical events of the ‘Carinthian Summer' take place in the summer months.
